How many EIN numbers can I have?

Back to FAQs

Acquiring an Employer Identification Number (EIN number) is an important step for your business. Instead of using your personal social security number to do business, you are using an EIN.

Having an EIN provides you with some measure of privacy. Disclosing your social security number to your clients may expose you to personal identity theft, whereas an EIN reduces the chances of you falling victim to this crime.

How Many EINs Do I Need

How many EINs or Employee Identification Numbers you need depends on the number of separate entities you have. For example, if you have 5 corporations, you can apply for 5 separate EINs.

If you have businesses that are not incorporated and do not fall within the category of a distinct legal entity from yourself, then you only get 1 EIN.

The process to apply for an EIN is easy. There are 3 simple steps.

  1. Select the identity type.

What are you filing as? Choose one.

  1. Enter your information.

This is where you enter your personal information, business information, and additional information. Depending on how many EINs you are applying for, you should submit separate applications.
